One of the most fun aspects of spirit wear fundraising (other than earning great profits, of course) is the creation of the custom logo. Spirit wear decorated with the “right” designs are effective at boosting school spirit and team pride. What qualities should you look for in a spirit wear custom design? There’s no secret formula, but we’ve got some advice that will help you find the right fit for your program.
There are four elements found in most custom designs: school name, mascot name, mascot image and school colors. However, they’re called custom designs for a reason. There’s not a standard template, and you should feel free to utilize whichever combination of elements you think will work best for your spirit wear program. Maybe you don’t think a mascot image is necessary, or perhaps you believe the combination of the school name and mascot image is enough. Mix and match until you’re happy.
As you and your spirit wear company collaborate to come up with a spirit wear custom design, the most important consideration is your customers. Provide them with spirit wear they will want, and that means utilizing a logo they like. In our 17 years in the industry, we’ve gathered information about the school and youth sports team markets and have a pretty good grasp of what does and doesn’t work. A good starting point is to look at demographics. Make sure your custom design is age- and gender-appropriate. In addition, try to find the right balance between uniqueness and the school standard. Spirit wear logos should be different than the school logo, but you also don’t want to stray too far away and end up with a logo that feels disconnected from the school.
